February 18th 2010- Trolley Tourin’ & SWIMin’
Yesterday we stopped by the concierge to buy some Trolley Tour tickets and today we used them. The bus came and picked us up at 9 am and made a few rounds to the other hotels to pick up some more tourists. Today I was feeling kind of sluggish. My allergies were taking a big toll on me and I am pretty certain the hotel room is the catalyst. Anyway, we hopped onto this trolley and made our first stop at Old Town San Diego. Its name is a very clear allusion that the town was in fact OLD. But it was a quaint OLD. It was nice. We only briefly stopped there because that is the main HQ for the tour company and where the tour begins. Dani and I stayed on the trolley and got a nice little tour of the naval marina and Horton Plaza. The history of the development of San Diego was very interesting to me, but not enough to keep my eyes open (at this point my allergies were bothering me much more). My awesome wife, taking note of my condition and knowing me so well, looked in the tour guide and found a movie theater at the next stop and suggested we go watch one. She knew exactly what would get me out of the mood I was about to get into.
So we hopped off at Horton Plaza, which was a cool outdoor shopping center type of thing, and looked for the movie theater. When we found it we also found out that matinees are not popular at this movie theater so our hopes were dashed. As a result we did what any normal person would do: Go sit at a table and sulk. We actually just sat and enjoyed each others company for a few minutes and then grabbed some food. As I’m writing this post I’m starting to see it is about as boring as a tour would be so I’m sorry for that. I’ll try to spice it up a bit. The tour continued throughout San Diego and it was very pretty and enlightening to learn the history of it. But I feel asleep shortly after we got back on the Trolley so I missed most of it.
I woke up as the Trolley was bringing us back to Old Town and we got off and spent the remainder of the day there. It was cool historical area with a lot of quaint old shops. We walked in and out of most of them, spending little bits of money in each which translated into of lot of money being spent. We got some cool claspy hand things, candy, a belt, wallet and key chain and some other stuff. The trolley’s weren’t heading back to the hotels for another two hours by the time we were done supporting the local Old Town economy so we called a cab. The cab took its sweet time getting to us, so we jumped in another one that was waiting across the street. We made good use of the nice clothes we packed and decided to go to SWIM the upscale poolside bar/restaurant for dinner. We fit right in with the family behind us decked out in bath robes and bathing suits, but we enjoyed ourselves. Thats where our night ended and this post ends. Again I apologize this post was pretty boring, but we did go on a Tour so I guess its justified.
**Just a little side note- You’ll see a picture of me down at the bottom. We were in old town and Dani told me to put this hat on and as a good husband should I did as she told. I handed her my camera so she could take a picture, but she took her sweet time taking the picture and in turn prolonging the embarrassment I had to sustain. I wasn’t really smiling (as you can see) so Dani did her best job to get the model to give her the shot she wanted: She put the camera down and said: “You look like a Jackass” in the most loving way possible. Clearly I did, I mean look at the stupid hat I was wearing. We’re still laughing about it now.
